Biography
Alisa has been singing ever since she can remember and when she was fifteen she began to write poetry as well. Two years ago, using garage band she was able to fuse those two passions together and wrote her first song. Through the use of garage band, she learned to mix loops and put together basic songs, resulting in a wide variety of styles and genres. She wrote everything from folk to dance music as she explored new ideas and concepts. In September of 2008, Alisa attended her first CCMAs and was inspired to try a more commercial approach to her writing. With so many friends in the country music industry; Alisa’s songs began to lean more heavily in the direction of country music. Over the next few months she learned the basics in commercial song structuring, did plenty of co-writing with fellow artists and attended several local seminars in her home town of Calgary, AB. By these means, she was able to learn more about the art of music making and the business that goes along with it.
In February of 2009, Alisa took one of her songs, “Love at First Sight” to John Thiel at Horizon music to have a demo made. She loved hearing her song take on a life of its own, and over the next few months, she brought in several other songs to do the same. By August of 2009, she had completed her first professionally recorded four-song demo – a cross over country CD with songs ranging from Country/Rock to Country/Folk. In September 2009, Alisa returned to the CCMAs where she attended many more seminars, did a great deal of networking and was able to get her demo into the hands of many industry professionals. The feedback was quite positive, but she still felt she was not necessarily where she was meant to be.
Upon talking it over with several trusted sources and doing some serious soul-searching, Alisa decided that while she enjoyed aspects of writing and singing country songs, her true passions lay elsewhere. She listened to her songs and going back to one of her earlier works, took “You Haunt my Dreams” to John Thiel. Hearing her song take shape made her decision clear. Alisa opted to follow her natural inclination to write and sing Pop/Rock music. She continues to write in all other genres as well, but with the intention of placing those songs with other artists, rather than use them for herself. Most recently, over the last few months, Alisa has spent a great deal of time writing for her debut album, “Into the Hollow” and working with John Thiel at the studio preparing demos of her music. She has also been focusing on increasing her online presence through such mediums as Facebook, Myspace, Reverb Nation, Our Stage and many more!
Her hard work has been paying off too! One of her songs, “Love at First Sight” recently charted at #9 on the Ourstage Standings for Alternative Country and remained in the top ten for over two weeks! She was also featured as #10 over all hot new artist in her category for nearly three weeks. Likewise, her facebook fan base has been growing steadily, recently surpassing her earlier goal of 1000 fans! Alisa is thrilled about the direction her music is going and can’t wait to show the world what she has been up to!
